Real Stepmoms. Biased Reviews.
Our Summer picks for Indy
So, now that my therapist has encouraged you to get away, I’m going to ask you to be patient (don’t pack your bags and abandon the house and family just yet). We’re still compiling all the best escapes for Indy.
Remember, your top picks make the list!
-
I recommend really indulging and getting a room for the night. Get a great nights sleep and then order the in-room massage. Let them beat the stress right out of you. A big job and a small price to pay, no?
BEST SALON AND STYLIST: Mary and Friends
-
Okay. Really weird Web site, but I’m told this is the place to go. Ask for Cary. I do like their marketing line, “Eat all the carbs you want. Put the protein in your hair.”
-
It’s said that Mo’s has the juiciest steaks in town and my friend Myrta backs this up. Meet your ladies here, order a bottle of red wine and ask for the table service preparation. Let someone wait on you for a change and relish every minute of it. If steak is too much for your delicate palate, their specialty house salad has received great reviews.
BEST DINNER OUT WITH YOUR MAN: Elements
-
Big on Indy produce and meats, Elements appeals to diners who advocate for local business and regional dishes. Plus, it’s got warm, romantic light and intimate tables for a much-needed date night.
-
Great Web site. Tons of designers. Watch their on-line videos for the latest fashion tips. I’ve put in an order to be delivered to Austin asap! Who said mid-westerners weren’t hip? Wash that mouth out with soap and get shopping.
-
This space is described as a “student union for adults.” I’m not sure what this means to you, but I’m imagining buckets of good coffee and comfortable chairs for reading and hard thinking. These neighborhood cafes are celebrated for great art and fresh ingredients.

Let me just say that if Myrta is recommending this hotel (which she is) then this is the place to stay. She is a woman who has traveled to every continent and knows how to spot the ideal getaway…or at least where to get the most comfortable sleep. Expect to spend some cash. Good pillows don’t come cheap.
BEST PLACE TO TAKE A WALK: The Canal
-
They call it Indy’s “Cultural Corridor.” Walking trails winding past museums, shops and eateries. This is a great place to get some alone time or to grab your favorite girlfriend for a long walk and talk. When you start to drag, stop off and recharge with a hit of espresso. Go home when you’re good and ready.
AND…what about you? what’s your pick?
