The Package Deal: Bay Area Bound

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Greetings from Sonoma County!

I’m back home for Part II of The Package Deal book tour and to visit with friends and family.

Here’s my favorite pic from last night’s reading at READERS BOOKS in Sonoma. I was joined by my mother Susan Swartz, author, radio personality and former Press Democrat columnist. As you can tell, we had a lot of fun cracking each other up.

Should you find yourself strolling around the square in Sonoma, make time to browse www.readersbooks.com, another fantastic, indie bookstore run by the charming Lilla Weinberger.

Stepmothers Milk on Twitter

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Ladies,
After much resistance, I’ve given in. I’ve joined Twitter. I’ve become a twitter-er. Or is it tweeter?

My husband will tell you that I am reluctant to embrace technology. It’s true. I started the SMM blog before I even really knew what a blog was. And then I limply embraced social networks like Technorati, Digg, Flickr, Facebook and now (arghh) here we are.

It wasn’t until I had lunch recently with a smart and savvy media maker that I finally understood the benefit of this popular technology. She said, “Twitter is a tool. I only use it to disperse important or interesting information and discover the most relevant and up-to-date information.” I thought, wait a minute. She’s not adding to the clutter? She’s using Twitter to comb through it? In her case, she’s a travel writer, so she seeks out pressing travel info (fares, deals, undiscovered land) and delivers it to her readers in a concise and urgent fashion. They don’t miss a thing and she’s done all the work!

I like her approach so I’ve decided to follow her lead. Because I don’t always have time to write a meaty post (and I refuse to throw up junkie-junk that I haven’t given significant thought to ), I will attempt to provide timely nuggets (in 140 characters or less) about stepparenting, stepmoms and our growing and savvy steplady network.

Sure, I may throw in the daily musing here and there, but I won’t be giving you digestion updates or tell you where I’m heading to lunch. Unless it’s somewhere delicious and as Jason Mesncick likes to say, “amazing.”

Let me know what you think. I’d love your feedback.

kisses,
