BEST SALON AND STYLIST: Sweeny Todds

My girlfriend Aza swears that Danielle is the best stylist at this salon. She says, “It’s probably not the most fancy pants, but I like it because it’s young and hip and they play good music, so I can pretend that I am not a frumpy thirty-something for an hour.”
Thirty is hardly frumpy, but bad hair can certainly make us feel that way. If that’s the case, get yourself to the salon.

BEST BOUTIQUE: Patina

Great jewelry and accessories. I also appreciate that they have a “hostess” section on their Web site. Go ahead, buy yourself that pink clutch in the window. They have gifts for kids, too, if you’re having pangs of S-mom guilt.

BEST SHOES: Nordstrom’s shoe section at the Mall of America

Mindy is the authority on this section because she loves shoes and she knows Minneapolis. She says, “I’m not a stepmom, but I can tell you this: The best place to shop for shoes here is Nordstrom’s shoe section at the Mall of America. Every time I’m in there I salivate because the shoes are so, so pretty. However, sometimes you can find the shoes you want and then walk down to DSW (also at MOA) and get them for way cheaper!”

BEST COCKTAILS: Figlio

Mindy also recommends Figlio in uptown for happy hour deals. She says, ” Everything is $2 - appetizers, wine, beer. It’s fantastic, and the atmosphere is fun. In terms of actual cocktails, I love the martinis at Stella’s Fish Cafe (also in uptown), and they have a phenomenal rooftop bar that’s open in the summer. The Ruby Red martini is heavenly, and packs a punch.

BEST DAY SPA: Spalon Montage

Check out this spa in the 50th and France area for an afternoon of rejuvination. Mindy advises, “It’s great to go by yourself, but even more fun to go with a girlfriend. We usually get there early and sit in our robes drinking tea or lemon water in their awesome waiting area. Then you each go get a massage and afterwards sit in the waiting area again relaxing. It’s perfect.”
