Stepmom Thrilled
How many of you grew up dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller? Be honest now– MJ was still cool in those days and dare I say, a bit of a hottie.
If you are like my sisters and I, we attempted to perfect the somewhat erotic, synchronized Zombie dance in our living room many afternoons after school. Little did I know then that twenty years later I would come across a worldwide movement of like-minded eighties kids who had grown up and never lost their desire to rise up from the dead, howl with the wolves and bust a move.
What you see here is nearly 900 people at Austin’s Long Center for the Arts participating in Thrill The World, a worldwide attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Dance with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
As you can imagine, this was a thrilling discovery and only confirmed my love for this expressive, art-driven, eccentric city.
For those of you who have also had a similar desire to gyrate along with fellow zombies, go to the main site to learn about an event near you, learn the dance and see videos of this awesome scene performed all over the world.
While, I wasn’t able to pull it together to dance with this group last weekend (I was in shorts and a Race For the Cure pink tee), I will be dressing as a Zombie tonight to pass out candy in my front yard, and I will most definitely attend the Day of the Dead Procession and Zombie March and Thriller performance tomorrow, November 1, on Sixth Street at Plaza Saltillo at 5:00 p.m. If you live in town, I suggest you check it out!
Happy Halloween,

Yes! MJ was too cool back in the day. “The Wall” was one of my favorites and of course we knew all the dances in each of his videos. If I lived there, I too would have been shakin’ it to the scary throw-down of Thriller.
I few days after my SD’s Halloween dance, we were in the car, and she was telling me about the horrible (?) music being played that night “YMCA, and Thriller” I laughed. (Things have really changed, I thought) She said she couldn’t understand why we liked it so much. Oh if she only knew how big that dance is still loved today… As soon as we got out of the car I broke out out some of my Thriller moves. She was laughing. But I could tell by the look on her face, my moves had some what diminished over the years.
that is so cool! I was in 2nd grade and dancing with my friend around her house to Billy Jean…lol
Good morning my dear stepmom friend.
