It’s official. My stepson sold his soul to the devil.
Last night, The Tall One went to his first concert and naturally, it was to see Marilyn Manson, lover of entrails and all things disturbing. Even though devil worship and hell-raising lyrics aren’t really my thing, I was excited for him. This was a Big Boy step. I encouraged him to wear black lipstick. Or to paint his face entirely. With chicken blood.
He gave me this look like, You really should be put out of your misery, you sad, sheltered woman.
I’m not a total dolt, people. I’m a product of the eighties– I get flamboyancy and androgynous stage antics. I mean, who doesn’t still secretly listen to Colour By Numbers by Boy George? I can dig it.
His girlfriend, Snuffleupagus, came to the door dressed in perfect Manson fashion. Slabs of black eyeliner, a neck collar under lock and key, safety pins stuck through her lobes and a plaid corset/nasty school girl situation over shredded jeans.
“Ya’ll have fun,” The Husband and I belted from the front porch.
I was so proud. There was my stepson– going off to party with the devil. Not a little kid anymore, but a teenager flirting with the dark side.

Ahh…so Snuffleupagus is still in the picture. It’s been a few months, huh? That’s a long time for a teenager! Hope he had fun at the concert…Marilyn Manson is not really my thing, but to each his own, right?
The Beautiful Peo-ple, The Beautiful Peo-ple!
Not a big MM fan, but I do love the rough and tumble guitar riffs in several of his songs. Any suggestions about how to keep the kids from reaching their teen years that doesn’t involve death?
Myself and my partner are each step to one another’s pair and the age range is STB7, 8, 9, and 9. We’re not sure if we should just run for our lives as those years approach.

If running is an option, maybe you should do it. Do tell the rest of us stepmoms and dads where your underground rebel army is:) I fear the teenagers will be running the house much sooner than later.

Just wait until they want piercings and tattoos! Its amazing what is pierceable…..
MM is most definitely not my thing, but you know, if my kids ever did go to a concert, it would probably be one that hubby and I have tickets for also, since they insist on listening to our music…. I am sure once teen age hits (man that is this year!!!!) they will try to find some form of music we don’t listen to, which will be very hard to do..
oh man i would do anything to meet MM. :) i’m officially jealous.
Oh this is just precious. You? Are the coolest stepmom in the world. If I ever again cross over to the married side of the tracks, I’ma fly you in to Atlanta for lessons. Thanks.
Also, any post that mentions Snuffy is a post I love. I’m so glad to know she’s still around. Ah, young love.
Big smooches, Izz.
I didn’t even know Marilyn Manson was still…alive? Making music? Touring? News to me!
okay so I was looking for some kind of online support and I stumbled upon this site. I am deciding to post so here goes. I have one stepdaughter who is six plus a daughter of my own who is 15 months. I am very lucky because my stepdaughter is absolutely great, none of that you’re not my mom stuff…yet anyways. She doesn’t remember a time when I wasn’t around plus she has a stepdad so she just thinks of the different houses as different sets of parents. So yeah lucky right…except one little problem her mother is well not so nice. I guess vindictive is the word. The kind where everything is always my husband’s fault NO MATTER WHAT! Well I guess I am looking to commiserate (did I even spell that right).
